Prophone is a high quality independent label focusing on jazz. Since its inception in 1990, approx 75 albums have been released on the Prophone label. Excellent performances and beautiful sound distinguish the recordings. In audiophile circles, “Jazz at the Pawnshop” is considered the finest and most realistic live recording ever made.

Mainstream jazz is the core of the Prophone catalogue, sometimes with a Scandinavian touch. Artists range from legendary singer Alice Babs - of SweDanes and Duke Ellington fame, having celebrated her 80th birthday last year - to young artists including singers Johanna Grüssner, Sofia Pettersson, Carin Lundin, Lina Nyberg, Rigmor Gustafsson and Jeanette Lindström, pianists Jacob Karlzon, Maggie Olin and Steve Dobrogosz, and horn players Peter Asplund (trumpet), Karl-Martin Almqvist (tenor sax) and Karin Hammar (trombone). Internationally renowned pianist Esbjörn Svensson is represented in a classic duet recording with Lina Nyberg.
